Director of Department of Turkish Studies at Institute of Oriental Studies, Armenian National Academy of Sciences, Professor Doctor Ruben Safrastyan said, "Obama used the term "Meds Yeghern (Great Catastrophe) that has been used by Armenians. That is an important progress. I think White House will not oppose to resolution recognizing 'Armenian genocide' any more".Commenting the process of normalization of ties between Turkey and Armenia, Financial Times wrote that Azerbaijan opposes this process considering such policy may result with isolation of Azerbaijan. FT also wrote that natural resources rich Azerbaijan will strengthen ties with Russia.
Director of biggest Turkish Organization in the United States, Turkish-American Associations Kaya Boztepe said, "Obama avoid to use the term genocide. That is a partial success. But Meds Yeghern is also a very strong word". He said that Obama made a statement that prevent any party to show a strong reaction.
