Azerbaijan and Turkey cooperate closely to preserve cultures of both countries, Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilij said at international scientific conference "Common views for new mind in contemporary world" in Baku.

He said Turkey-Azerbaijan ties have developed on the intellectuals' level for many years. The cooperation between Azerbaijani and Turkish intellectuals began specifically after 19th century.

"It was clearly reflected in 1918 when Azerbaijan gained its first independence. Azerbaijani scholars played a great role in formation of the Republic of Turkey," the ambassador said.

The ambassador said Azerbaijan and Turkey maintained even closer ties after Heydar Aliyev came to power. "Globalization of the 20th century leads to rapprochement of many cultures. We can see that the globalization has both positive and negative sides. For example "swine flu" outbreak that began in Mexico has engulfed the entire world. It is impossible to image any country isolated from others.

Therefore countries must cooperate to preserve cultures," Turkish ambassador said.
