QUESTIONS OVER FREEDOM OF PRESS IN ARMENIA

Arranged by International Hrant Dink Foundation, Turkish journalists visited some of press associations in Yerevan. The conclusion made as a result of observations and talks that there isn?t a law in Armenia similar to clause 301 but once can feel himself in danger in case of making a report over "dangerous" topics.

Executive Editor of Hetq (iz) Online, Edik Baghdasaryan is one of best examples to show the situation of freedom of press in Armenia: He was beaten last month because of a report over a corruption event.

Baghdasaryan said, "I prepared a report about former Minister of Environment Vartan Ayvazyan participated graft using his influence. My researches held more than one year. The assault happened on December 17. They were three people and one of them could be arrested. He uses the right of silence. He is being jedged of holiganizm."

Baghdasaryan said that some people in Armenia immunity and it is easier to make reports over international issues than making reports about events in Armenia.
