Director of Department of Turkish Studies at Institute of Oriental Studies and Armenian National Academy of Sciences Ruben Safrasian claimed that there are one million crypto-Armenian in Turkey.

Claiming that researches of English and German scientists show that 38—40 percent of Turkish citizens do not consider themselves as “Turkish,” Safrasian claimed that the number of cyrpto-Armenians reach about one million.They consider themselves as Armenian, Kurdish, Greek and member of other ethnicities he said. As he claims the number of cyrpto-Armenians as about one million, Safrasian claimed that number of cyrpto-Christians in Turkey is about 2 millions. Most of cyrpto-Armenians live outside of Istanbul he claimed.
