Ataturk University Faculty of Arts History Department lecturer Professor Doctor Konukcu said that the toponyms are exposed to different influences through all history, and it is natural. Stating that changes in the toponyms is made within the frame of laws in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, Konukcu said, “You cannot see urged changes in the toponyms in Turkey while that is familiar in Greece, Bulgaria, Iran and Armenia.

Stating that the changes in the toponyms by time is naturel, Konukcu said that Turkey and Ottoman Empire made the changes in the frame of laws.

Konukcu said, “There are discussions especially over the changes of toponyms in Eastern Anatolia. Many different state managed these land. And those states made changes in toponyms towards their own will. Armenians are not among these. They call theirselves as „Hay.“ And it doesn”t have scientific explanation. But you can see any kind of allegation in the history books that are written. More than that, Eastern Anatolia is labeled as “Armenia.” Moreover, there are sources which call Eastern Anatolia as Georgia, Armenia an deven Kurdistan. Our answer to those allegations will be, “Go learn it.” First of all, there is nothing like Kurdistan in middle age. Armenians lay claim to these region with fabricating toponyms. Before solving the issues of Seljuks, Mongols, Ilkhanids they cannot suggest a toponym like Kurdistan. Historical documents should be investigated very well.“
