
Russian newspaper RBC Daily wrote that Turkey wants to normalize its relations with Armenia for increasing its influence in Caucasus and to be able to play the role of leader country in the region.
Newspaper published a report titled, “Turks are ready for Armenian President’s Turkey visit.” Russian journal wrote, “In desire of taking the leadership of Caucasus with support of United States, Turkey is ready for negotiating with Armenia.”
The report said that Turkey made another step for having the position of leader country in Caucasus. RBC Daily wrote, “Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that they expect Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan to visit Turkey in the end of November. The disputes between Ankara and Yerevan are forming obstacles for Turkey’s leadership in Caucasus. During the conflict between Russia and Georgia last year, Armenia lost its corridor of transportation through Russia. Although Russia promised for this transportation corridor to be fixed, Yerevan administration is searching for alternative paths for trade and transportation. And it is not yet clear that if Ankara will present an alternative for Armenia.
Russian newspaper wrote that Ankara is not looking for financial profits in its relations with Armenia. Experts consider that Turkey’s interest in Armenia talks is just about politics. Turkey feels itself as householder of Caucasus and disagreements between Ankara and Yerevan forms obstacles for Turkey’s role of leadership. United States also supports Turkey’s Caucasus policies in that context.
