Presenter of state television of Russia, Maksim Shevchenko said that Armenia should establish relations with Azerbaijan if it wants Turkish borders to be opened.

Talking to Azerbaijani 1news.az website, Russian expert stated that economical prosperity should be provided in the region for resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Shevchenko said, “If Armenia could establish relations with Azerbaijan, the negotiations for normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia would get stronger and more efficient. If Yerevan does not establish relations with Baku, then it will suffer of lack of transportation corridors.”

Shevchenko said that the basic condition for resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem is the situation of refugees in Azerbaijan. He said that they should return to their homeland for Karabakh conflict to be able to be solved.

Shevchenko said that Armenian forces in the seven surrounding region of Nagorno-Karabakh should leave Azerbaijani lands. He said that withdrawal of Armenian forces from seven surrounding region of Nagorno-Karabakh is not a matter of discussion. He said, “Armenia is not keeping those lands in hand for itself. Those are being kept as a card for bargain.”

Stating that refugees should return to their homes first, Russian expert said,“It would be more fair to start to procedure of decision of status of Nagorno Karabakh. There are one-million refugees in Azerbaijan. It wouldn’t be fair to determine status of Nagorno-Karabakh by a referandum before refugees return their homeland.”
