Komsomolskaya Pravda correspondent Darya Aslamova went to Armenia after 20 years and wrote her observations.
Journalist wrote, “I have been in Armenia 20 years ago. I still remember our conversation with an Armenian. The drunk Armenian i was talking to was claiming that Jesus Christ was a nationalist Armenian. I told him that Jesus is Jewish and his father is God. Afterwards he told me that God is an Armenian. When i visit Armenia after 20 years, i realized that not much thing changed in Armenia.”
Aslamova stressed that Armenia still keeps its arrogancedespite heavy economical and political crisis in act. Armenians still mention “Great Armenia” and claim that they are different from other nations and they were created differently. They define theirselves as an elite nation like Jewish people do and they come with genocide allegations. Armenian lobbies succeeded to pass resolutions that recognizes genocide but they could not make Turkey to pay moral or material compensation.
According to Darya Aslamova, Armenians do not spare any effort for making U.S. to recognize so called Armenian genocide but they can’t succeed in that. Obama, as previous American presidents, did not keep the promise he gave to Armenians and did not use the word “genocide” in his speech. The reason for President Obama to not to keep his promise was reports on media about a process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Racist Dashnaktsutyun party of Armenia do not find development of relations between Turkey and Armenia favourable. Dashnaktsutyun made its name as a terrorist organization at the begining of 20th century. Dashnak terrorists killed 60 high level Turkish diplomats. Current leader of Dashnaktsutyun, Vagan Oganesyan was in prison for three years because he intervened terroristic actions.
Darya Aslamova refered to statements of Vagan Ogenasyan and tried to reveal why Dashnaks are against normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. Ogenasyan said, “Purpose of United States is keeping its position in Afghanistan. It was using Pakistan to be able to reach Afghanistan. But recently, Pakistan is dangerous for US. While using Iran for the same purpose is impossible. Then the remaining options for United States are Russia and Armenia. There are also risks about using Georgia too. Because of that, United States presses for resolution of Nagorno Karabakh problem and opening of borders between Turkey and Armenia. Besides, United States plans to place troops on Iran border of Nagorno Karabakh. And they are very close to that achivement….”
According to former Defence Minister of Armenia, Vatarshak Arutyunyan, talks between Turkey and Armenia is not being held by the own will of parties. These talks are being held because United States wants. Armenian politicians tracked speech of U.S. President Obama during his visit to Turkey, carefully. Obama stated that Turkey is strategical partner of United States and it should be efficient in Caucasus. Former Armenian minister stresses that United States aims to extract Russian forces from Caucasus.
Darya Aslamova wrote, “Armenia is a little country with population of three millions. On the other hand, it is living under the pressureof Turkey and Azerbaijan. Its can only find a way out through Iran which is restricted. Its border with Georgia is problematic since the war in August. Armenia has only airway contact to Russia. While that contact is left to tolerance of Turkeyor Azerbaijan. Armenia is not dying of hungerbecause Armenian diaspora and U. S. Congressaids to the country. Diaspora’s personal aids to Armenia is about 2 billion dollars.”
According to Head of Armenian Globalization Center Stepan Grigoryan, Georgia takes 30 percent of the trade profit when Armenia trades via Georgia. Opening of borders with Turkey means being able to trade via Trabzon. Besides, according to Grigoryan, Turkish route is safe and does not have the risk of bribe.
Grigoryan said that Russia is silent about relations between Turkey and Armenia because it wants to weaken Georgia. According to Grigoryan Georgia does not think of any rapprochement with Russia for 50 years while Russia wants to cut Georgia’s income via Armenia’s usage of Georgia as a transit country for its trade.
Ogesanyan said that development of relations between Turkey and Armenia will take Azerbaijan closer to Russia.
People in Russia started to think that Armenia is being a burden for Russia and Caucasus policies of Russia should be established on Azerbaijan.
Ogenasyan said, “But we should keep it in mind that Turkey will never abandon Azerbaijan. And even Russia makes donations to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijanis will keep being
Armenian politicians that Aslamova talked to, stated that Armenia has great importance for Russia and that should be kept in mind.
