“The atmosphere of distrust between Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples can soon be removed,” said director of the projects “Program on Eurasia” of British International Alert Desislava Rusanova.

“I do not doubt that this will happen and it will be difficult,” announced Rusanova.

According to her, the practice of other regions shows it is possible even considering the Caucasus specifics.

She said the image of an enemy is built on most levels, beginning with history manuals. At the same time, Rusanova added that though Armenia does not hold propaganda of hatred “but sometimes it creates an image of an enemy artificially.”

She considers that the main method of fighting hatred is a communication between representatives of both peoples. Rusanova noted if while discussing issues, related to people, both Azerbaijanis and Armenians sometimes demonstrate aggressiveness, but when they speak of definite people, they start to recall only good moments.

In this connection, the expert announced that the fourth forum organized by International Alert will be held with participation of the representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan aimed at creating positive environment and trust between the two peoples.

International Alert is an international peacekeeping nongovernmental organization with a consultative status under UN.
