The Kremlin is not happy that Armenia, Russia's closest ally in the Caucasus, gave a relatively warm welcome to Mikheil Saakashvili during the Georgian president's recent visit to Yerevan. Saakashvili is widely loathed in Russian policy-making circles. Tatyana Moskalkova, chair of the Russian parliament's Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs described the welcome that Armenian officials gave to Saakashvili as a „slap in Russia's face.” Some Russian MPs have called on Armenia to make a clear choice between Russia and Georgia.
