“International 1909 Adana Incidents Symposium” that is arranged by Turkish Historical Society (TTK) is started.

President of Turkish Historical Society Professor Doctor Ali Birinci stated that they arrenged the symposium for discussing the truths about the incidents in Adana.

Stressing that Turkey is not making enough historical researches, Birinci said, “Our nation suffered of great disasters since the Ottoman-Russian war. But it is not our nature to exaggerate them. Maybe a psychological compensation mechanism, we want to forget them. Therefore, 1909 Adana incident is one of those disasters, we do not want to remember.”

Stating that Ottomans never treated mimnmorities in an injustice way, Birinci said, “Adana incident was an unfortunate incident. But that was not happened because of us.”

Stating that one should search whole history to understand an event, Birinci said, “We evaluate Adana incident as an incident that should be researched. We think that we do not have any dark spot in our recent history that we would be ashamed of. All we did, was the struggle for keeping our existence on these lands. We think that we have the right. Therefore, we will be just pleased about any research over our recent history.”

Director of Turkish Historical Society Armenian Researches Department Professor Doctor Kemal Cicek said that there are different approaches to 1909 Adana Incident in the sources about the event. He said that they do not aim to commemorate the events but they want to investigate the issue. Cicek said that two Armenian scientist will also speak in the symposium.
