Statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the mediation of OSCE Minsk Group found different reactions in Azerbaijani community.
Azerbaijani President stated the clauses of agreements that Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed for the resolutio of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for the first time in his interview to Russian State Television. The interview of Aliyev is brought to agenda by Azerbaijani media to be discussed in detail.
Azerbaijani experts consider that important steps may be made in the July. According to the claim, U. S. President Barack Obama also discussed Karabakh problem with Russian President Dimitry Medvedev. Azerbaijani media also claimed that Turkish President Abdullah Gul discussed Nagorno-Karabakh problem with Obama. On the other hand, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan are expected to meet in Moscow for discussing resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within this month.
Azerbaijani media defined the details of negotiations that are stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview to Russian State Television as “sensational.”
Ilham Aliyev said in the interview that Armenians will withdraw from 5 surrounding regions of Nagorno-Karabakh and withdraw from Kelbejer and Lachin within five years. He stated that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh will be determined in the frames of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Reactions of Azerbaijani politicians differs on a wide range. Opposition leader Isa Kamber said that statements of Azerbaijani President will be refuted by Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan. He said that they are pleased to hear that the final agreement is close.
Political expert Vefa Guluzade claimed that the problem of Nagorno Karabakh will be solved as a result of the agreement reached between Russian President Dimitry Medvedev and American President Barack Obama. He said that Russia loses its influence over the region.
