G-8 COUNTRIES TO ISSUE JOINT STATEMENT ABOUT KARABAKH

 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijani lands are under Armenian occupations for long years. He said, “The ceasefire was declared 15 years ago, but the issue is not solved yet.”

Aliyev said, “As a result of Armenia’s ethnic cleansing and military agression policy against Azerbaijan, 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands is under occupation and one million people turned into refugees.”

Making a statement after meeting with Syrian President Beshar Esad, Aliyev said, “Decisions of United Nations General Assembly and four resolutions of Security Council demand withdrawal of Armenian forces from the occupied lands. Resolutions of other international organizations support Azerbaijan’s position too.”

Commenting on the principle of “right of self determination of people,” Azerbaijani President said, “Armenian people already determined its fate.” He said that Armenia is an independent country and Karabakh dispute should be solved within the frame territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Making a statement about the summit between Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents in Moscow in July 17—18, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Almar Mammadyarov stated that the occupation in the Azerbaijani land should be ended immediately. He said that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be discussed after occupation ends and refugees return to their homes.

Attending to the G-8 summit in Italy, Russian, American and Frech leaders are expected to issue a joint statement about Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict. Member countries of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group wants to stress that important progress in made in the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave information about the negotiation process in his interview to Russian ’Vesti’ television. Azerbaijani leader told that Armenians will withdraw from five of seven surrounding region of Nagorno Karabakh. He said, “According to the negotiations Armenian forces will withdraw from Lachin and Kelbajar within 5 years.” Stating that the negotiations for determination of status of Nagorno-Karabakh will last long, Aliyev said, “We may reach to an agreement within one year, maybe ten years or maybe 100 years. And maybe we can never agree about it.” Aliyev said, “We should not always live in the conditions of war. We do not want that.”
