G-8 countries called Azerbaijan and Armenia for a deal on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Attending to the G-8 summit in Italy, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group member countries United States, France and Russia stated that they demand Azerbaijan and Armenia to remove the issues of disagreements and reach to a deal on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The joint statement that is issued by American President Barack Obama, French President Nicholas Sarkozy and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that a new version of the Madrid document is suggested. Madrid document was signed in November 2007 and according to that 7 surrounding regions around Nagorno-Karabakh will be returned to Azerbaijan. After that the security in Nagorno-Karabakh will be provided by international forces and determination of the status of Karabakh will be made afterwards. Returning of Azerbaijani refugees to their home and establishment of a land corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia are among the issues that are being discussed.

In their joint statement, leaders stated that they support efforts of Azerbaijani, Armenian Presidents towards resolution of the dispute. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan will meet again in Moscow on July 17. Experts think that the Moscow meeting of Presidents will be fruitful even if they do not sign any document. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had said that the agreement they are negotiating on includes immediate withdrawal of Armenian forces from 5 occupied regions, and withdrawal from 2 regions within 5 years. Aliyev said that it is not clear when will parties determine the status of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijan and Armenia are negotiating for resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem in the mediation of OSCE Minsk Group since 15 years. An estimated 30,000 people were killed before the ceasefire took effect and 1 million Azerbaijani people had to leave their land. The Christian Armenians and Muslim Azeris have never signed a peace accord to end of the conflict.
