Previous meeting between parties was held on 4 June at St. Petersburg. Russian President also had participated negotiations and parties left the table of negotiation with positive signals towards resolution of the conflict.
After last meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents was made, advisor to Russian President Medvedev, Sergey Prihodko stated that Russia did not press any party. He said that there was an atmosphere of dialogue only and they did not urge Presidents to have an urgent agreement. Prihodko said, “It is just that Mr. Medvedev invited Presidents for a dinner near Neva river.” Advisor to Medvedev, Prihodko stated that Russia wants negotiations between Presidents to continue and that they want to create occasion for that to happen.
World media is highly interested in the next meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents. Both OSCE Minsk Group and Russia have important role in the negotiations. The meeting is also highly important for Turkey that positive results that would be achieved from Presidents’ meeting will mean progress in the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Turkey closed its borders and terminated its diplomatic relations with Armenia following the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian forces. One of the most important issue that bothers Turkey in Nabucco project is the issue of closed borders with Armenia.
On the other hand, political experts consider that parties are close to reach an agreement in the negotiations towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
