
The meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents in Moscow did not give a concrete result towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Getting prepared for a trilateral meeting with Baku and Yerevan, Ankara plans to arrange a Turkey-Armenia meeting in the United Nations Plenary Session.
As the Moscow meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents ended without any concrete statement, Ankara wants to establish contact with Azerbaijan and Armenia towards normalization of its relations with Armenia as a parallel process to the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In this context, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will visit Syrian President Beshar Esad who visited Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia and stated that Syria is ready to assist the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. Other than that, Ankara plans to establish contact with Armenia in the United Nations Plenary Session.
The meetings between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan in the mediation of Russia, are expected to continue in following months. Interested to keep the process of normalization of relations with Armenia parallel to the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ankara administration will establish contact with Baku and Yerevan. High level officials from Ankara are expected to visit both Baku and Yerevan in this context.
The meeting between Turkish and Armenian Foreign Ministers which was expected to happen last month did not take place. While Ankara gets prepared to arrange a meeting with Armenia in the United Nations Plenary Session, Yerevan states that they are waiting for the next step of Ankara.
Speaking to Sabah, an Armenian official stated that Armenia does not welcome establishment of parallelism between the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations and the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Armenian official blamed Turkey for the delay in the process of normalization, stressing that the process had gained an acceleration in the mediation of Switzerland.
Russian press evaluated the meeting of Presidents as “constructive.” Ria Novosti wrote, “Parties of conflict made progress in the mediation of Russia. The meeting was very constructive.”
