It was announced that the soccer game between Turkey and Armenia will be played in Kayseri. When the people of Kayseri reacted to that report saying, “We do not want the committers of Khojaly genocide in our city,” the match is taken to Bursa. Turkish media reported that Turkish Football Federation is concerned that people of Bursa may give the same reaction.
Turkey evaluates the dispute of Nagorno-Karabakh as its own problem. And meantime, Aliyev always states that we are two states and one nation.
If Turkey and Azerbaijan presses for the resolution, Karabakh conflict would be solved? Not 100 percent true. One could understand that making a visit to Baku. It is easy to realize that the statements of Mr. Aliyev is different in practice.
How did the occupation of Karabakh happen. Did Armenians occupy Nagorno-Karabakh with their own weapons? Of cource not. It is clear that Nagorno-Karabakh is occupied by Russians who used Armenians to do that. Those were Russian tanks who entered the region. Therefore, Azerbaijani administration should be suspending its relations with Russia as they do with Armenia. On the other hand, it is just the opposite. Russia has a great influency over Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is the most loyal member of Commonwealth of Independent States.
Russian language is effective in the country. First TV channels in the televisions in Azerbaijan are Russian channels. Russian culture spreads while Azerbaijani people can hardly preserve their culture and traditions.
Especially in its foreign policy, Azerbaijan can hardly make any step that Russia does not approve. That problem unveiled again in the issue of Nabucco project.
There are iron curtains between the people and the government of Azerbaijan. During the Soviet regime, Azerbaijani people were more independent. We cannot mention of an independent media now. Azerbaijani administration has strong influence on media and people cannot talk freely.
