Developing its bilateral relations with Turkey, Cuba is making her first steps to know more about history and language of Turks. Giving an interview to Zaman newspaper, Cuban ambassador Ernesto Gomez Abascal stated that a department of Turkish culture, history and language researches will be opened at Havana University on October.
Serving in Turkey since 5 years, Abascal is about to fulfill his duty. A witness of the fas developing relations between Turkey and Cuba, Abascal said, “Volume of trade between our countries reached to 50 million dollars within a few months. There was nearly no trade before that. Other than that, Cuba is the number one destination of Turkish tourists who visits Latin America. Every year
Stressing the good relations between Turkey and Cuba, Abascal said, “There are no issue that would bring Turkey and Cuba to a point of disagreement. With certain countries, there is the issue of so called Armenian genocide that damages the relations of Turkey with those countries. But we do not want to intervene such issues.”
Cuba’s ambassador to Turkey, Ernesto Gomez Abascal said, “When they mention me about the issue of so called Armenian genocide i tell them; Aren’t Jewish people committing a genocide against Palestinian people? It is very interesting that they ask about the events which happened 100 years ago. Should not they be asking about the current events? Everyday we watch on television, we follow from newspapers. They are trying to clear Palestinian people away.”
Abascal summerizes the importance of Turkey in which he served for five years as, “17th biggest economy of the world. Has power and great influence in the region. Turkey always uses peaceful methods to solve problems.”
