Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan stated that he will not come to Turkey if the borders are not opened or if Turkey and Armenia are not at the threshold of removal of blockade against Armenia.

He said that Armenia is showing good will against Turkey by proposing no preconditions for establishment of relations despite historical problems and the issue of so called Armenian genocide. Sarksyan said, “We are not going to accept preconditions. Turkey should be understanding that there can’t be preconditions in this age. Because preconditions are causing back reactions.”

Turkish government and opposition parties reacted to inappropriate statements of Armenian President. Nationalist Movement Party Group Deputy Chairman Oktay Vural claimed that that the policy of Justice and Development Party tarnishes Turkey’s honour and said that Armenian initiative of the government has failed. “What happened after President Abdullah Gul went to Yerevan. They should just stop for a while and look back.” Claiming that government had given promises to Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan behind the closed doors, Nationalist Movement Party deputy said that bold attitude of Sarksyan is the fault of Turkish government.

“It does not matter if Sarksyan comes to Turkey or not. But his statements tarnishes Turkey’s honour. President Abdullah Gul should not have visited Armenia, he did not listen the warnings of opposition,” said he.

Reacting to the statements of Armenian President Oktay Vural said, “Who is that guy? Is he someone very important? Who gives him the right for speaking against Republic of Turkey in such a way?”

Retired Ambassador Inal Batu also reacted the recent statements of Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan and said that Turkey’s honour is tarnished. He claimed that Turkey did not gain anything as a result of Armenian initiative. Batu said, “The soccer diplomacy of the President has came to nothing. It also did not solve April 24th problem. Turkish government has promised Armenia opening of borders in return of withdrawal of Armenian forces from 5 occupied regions. But they did not inform Azerbaijan about that, while Russia and Iran did it on our behalf. Azerbaijan’s reaction to this was harsh.”
