ARMENIAN FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER FELL BY A THIRD

Armenia’s foreign trade turnover decreased by 31.5 percent in January-June 2009 from the same period of 2008 and reached $1.65 billion.

The National Statistical Service said exports amounted to $281 million with a decrease of 45.9 percent and imports $1.378 million with a decrease of 27.5 percent.

CIS accounted for 33.4 percent of Armenia’s foreign trade turnover while the EU countries accounted for 30.2 percent. Russia still maintains a lead with a share of 23.7 percent of the total foreign trade turnover. However, the figure for Russia fell by 15.4 percent ($393 million). Armenian exports to Russia totaled $ 41 million while imports from Russia totaled $ 352 million
