Making a statement about the ’humanity monument’ which caused wide sensations after its construction and which is planned to be removed by the Ministry of Culture,provincial headof Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Kars, Oktay Aktas claimed that the monument was built “with a projection of Great Armenia that is centered on Kars.”
Aktas said, “We are not against art or statues. We are against the meaning of the statue and the shape of the monument.It should have a meaning, and it should connect yesterday with today. Why did they need such monument in Kars? We should understand that. We need to know well about 1920 Gyumri and 1921 Kars agreements.” Claiming that Kars agreement projected to be suspended, nationalist politician stated that establishment of a ’Great Armenia’ is planned. “That is why a monument for Turkish genocide cannot be built in Igdir but instead a monument of humanity is built in Kars,” said he.
Oktay Aktas stated that the laser lights that are used to enlighten the statue could be seen from Armenia. He claimed that two human figure that hugs each other symbolizes meeting of ’Eastern Armenia’ and ’Western Armenia’.
