Azerbaijani military experts refuted the claims about usage of Turkish air corridor to arm the Russian military base in Armenia by Russia. Azerbaijani experts stated that Russia delivers arms to its military base in Gyumri over Iran.
Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted the claims of Armenian Turcologist Richard Giragosian which found space in Turkish, Azerbaijani and Armenian mass media.
Speaking to Azerbaijani website 1News.az, expert Uzeyir Caferov said that Russia transfers arms to its military base in Gyumri, Armenia using the air space of Iran. Caferov said, “Russia transfers arms to Armenia through two destinations. One is Caspian sea and the other is through Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Iran. Azerbaijan should carry this issue to agenda during its talks with Iran. Iran is the unique country that Russia uses to transfer arms to Armenia. Russia sends Armenia any material including weapons, over Iran. Afterwards those arms passes to the hands of seperatist Nagorno Karabakh administration.”
Another Azerbaijani military expert Yildirim Memmedov also stated that Moscow delivers arms to Armenia over Iran. Memmedov said, “USA is able to watch the developments in whole Caucasus by its space technology. It would be good if United States confirms the information for Baku that Russia delivers arms to Armenia.” Memmedov called United States to detect the amount of arms that are transferred to third countries by Russia over Iran.
Head of Armenian National and Strategical Researches Center Richard Giragosian had stated that Ankara and Moscow reached a secret agreement about transfer of Russian arms to the military base of Russia in Armenia through Turkish air space. Giragosian claimed that Turkey allowed Russia to use its air space for carrying arms to the Russian military base in Gyumri, Armenia. Following the reports in Turkish and Armenian mass media, Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that reports are nothing more than fiction.
