Head of Middle East Strategical Researches Center (ORSAM) Hasan Kanbolat stated that thebasis of friendship, peace and prosperity between Turkey and Azerbaijan should not include only politicians and diplomats but it should be enlarged to include poeple of two countries.

Speaking to ANKA, Kanbolat reminded that the results of the poll which measures foreign policy perceptions of Turkish people showed that Turks evaluate Azerbaijan as the most important ally of Turkey. “If we should consider that a fabrication crisis was in place between two countries, this is great news,” said he.

Stating that we should find answers for the question, “What should be done for creating a joint future with Azerbaijan,” Kanbolat said that it is high time for preparation of a roadmap for developing fraternal relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan into strategic partnership. Kanbolat said that two countries could not build a joint strategic future in 21th century despite their historical connections, and said that two countries did not make any effort since they evaluated each other as ’bird in the hand’. “They thought that it is enough to have good diplomatic and economical relations between two countries around the slogan of ’One nation, two states’.” Stating that the relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan could not reach the level of the relations between Turkey and Georgia, Azerbaijan and Russia or Azerbaijan and Armenia, Kanbolat said that Azerbaijan keeps applying visa against Turkish people although Turkey removed visa requirement for Azerbaijanis.

Reminding that the volume of trade between Turkey and Azerbaijan has exceeded 2 billion dollars, Kanbolat stated that Turkey and Azerbaijan still do not have a joint Armenia policy. Kanbolat also criticized Turkish administration and stated that Turkey does not support the activities of Turkish non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan. Kanbolat said;

“It is high time for introducing Turkish intellectuals and politicians in Azerbaijan. We welcome efforts of Azerbaijani people for learning Turkey Turkish, but we want to see Turkish people doing the same about Azerbaijani Turkish. As many Azerbaijani visit Turkey for touristic purposes, it is not possible to see many Turkish tourists in Azerbaijan. We hope that thebasis of friendship, peace and prosperity between Turkey and Azerbaijan can be enlarged to include people of two countries.”
