
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and Turkish-Armenian businessmen planning a visit to Marseille where Armenian diaspora has a strong influence. Purpose is development of bilateral relations.
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) will bring Turkish Armenian businessmen and French Armenian businessmen together in Marseille within the frames of Turkish season in France.
Stating that they are going to Marseille with a delegation of 50 businessmen, head of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Murat Yalcintas said, “We aim to establish a bridge of trade and cooperation between Marseille and Istanbul. We are so excited about bringing Armenian businessmen from Istanbul and Armenian businessmen from Marseille together.”
“We established contact with some Armenian businessmen about the project and they found this initiative constructive. There is a huge Armenian community in Marseille. We want to change negative impression of Armenian diaspora in Marseille against Turkey. I hope we do not face an event that would interrupt our initiative,” said he.
Yalcintas met with city mayor of Marseille, Didier Parakian. “We will be glad to entertain Armenian and Turkish businessmen in Marseille,” said Parakian.
Head of ITO, Yalcintas stated that they are concerned of some evil-minded groups may interrupt the initiative and said, “We want to establish warm relations with our friends there. And even more than that, we want to bring our Armenian citizens with the Armenian diaspora in Marseille.”
Reminding the protest demonstrations during the arrival of Turkish boat Kybele to Marseille, Yalcintas said that they had interviews with officials from municipality of Marseille for such event to not to take place again.
Marseille is an important city for Armenian diaspora and there are about 100,000 Armenian living in the city.
