
The cemetary that master of Kurdish music, Armenian singer Aram Tigran wanted to be burried as his last will, is being reconditioned. Armenian cemetary in Diyarbakir is decorated with lighting system, water and green space.
Old Armenian cemetary in Diyarbakir came to agenda following the death of Armenian singer Aram Tigran. Municipality of Diyarbakir started reconditioning the in the graveyard which falled into ruin by years. Municipality Chief of Health Department Nedim Yasli stated that work for remodeling the Armenian cemetary started before the death of Armenian singer Aram Tigran. Stating that they built environing wall, Yasli said,
“We cleaned the area and repaired alleys. We also held restauration at present administration building. We will apply to the Armenian community to learn about the places of the graves to resettle them their previous places. We also seperated a place in Yenikoy cemetary for our Christian citizens. Armenian and Assyrian citizens of Diyarbakir will use that cemetary.”
Other than construction of a surrounding wall, 250 threes and 500 plants planted to the cemetary as a part of reconditioning. Lighting system is renewed and water problem is solved. Stating that a personnel for security of the cemetary is assigned, Yasli said, “We considered that doing so we will provide better care for the cemetary. Care taker stays at the building within the cemetary with his family.”
