INTERESTING DIPLOMATIC TRAFFIC IN CAUCASUS

Azerbaijan and Georgia are visited by several Westerner officials especially in last months. In the period which there was a sharp increase in the amount of visits to Caucasus, a war between Georgia and Russia had emerged and Azerbaijan suggested settling of NATO forces to Nagorno-Karabakh. Georgia and Azerbaijan are the countries which have very good relations with United States and NATO. Last year, a war emerged between Georgia and Russia in August. Armenian experts claimed that Azerbaijan was planning a military operation against Armenia if Georgia can be successful against Russia, but victory of Russia interrupted Azerbaijan’s plan. Briefly, Georgia and Azerbaijan is potentially open to the provocations of Westerner powers. Several Westerner expert visited country last month. Azerbaijan and NATO had a joint summit in Brussels in July, and they decided to increase the level of cooperation. On the other hand, vice-President of United States, Joe Biden had visited Georgia. Since these visits are made, there is a densed traffic in Caucasus.

A delegation of experts from NATO in the presidency of James Keagle from United States visited Georgian Ministry of Defence on July 28th.

On August, Azerbaijani Defence Minister stated that United States will hold a military exercise in Baku for the Azerbaijani navy and Azerbaijani officers will attend “anti-terrorism operations at sea” classes in United States.

Daniel Fried from U. S. Foreign Ministry had visited Georgia on August 6th, and same day Georgian parliament decided to send forces to Afghanistan.

On August 10th, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza visited Georgia and Azerbaijan.

On August 15th a delegation of U.S. military officers arrived Georgia to educate Georgian military.

On August 21 U.S. Navarch General James Conway visited Georgia.
