One of the leaders of Turkish diaspora in California, Karahan Mete told how Turkish diaspora organizations in United States prevented recognition of several resolutions about so called Armenian genocide. Mete stressed that U.S. based Turkish organizations TCCA, Turkish Defense Fund, ATAA, TAAF, PAX Turcica, TAAC, Turkuaz, TADF managed to prevent recognition of three resolutions on so called Armenian genocide that are tried to be submitted to California local Congress by Armenian diaspora.
Stating that hostility against Turkish people is continously fed by Armenian churches and Armenian diaspora and anti-Turkish policies became the cement of Armenian community, Karahan Mete said that State of California is where Armenian and Greek diasporas are dominant due to huge Armenian and Greek population. AJR 14 Dedicated to keep so called Armenian genocide on agenda, Armenians were presenting resolution number AJR14 every year and it was easily passing from the Senate of State of California. But with the help of close relationship of Turkish organizations with Senator Darrel Steinberg, implementation of draft resolution number AJR 14 was hindered. AB 961 Purpose of this resolution that is presented by Armenian descent deputy Krekorian is to prohibit the cooperation between local government and organizations that works with Turkey. This draft resolution is still on the agenda and it is temporarily prevented due to insufficiency of finance.
During the discussions about this lawsuit, Turkish Defence Fund sent advocate Bruce Fein to California two times and Fein defended Turkish thesis very well. Other than that, several Turkish people appeared in the Senate and stated their opinion about the resolution. SB 234 Resolution number SB 234 that is presented to Senate by Senator Wyland has passed from the senate and it is being discussed Parliamentary Committee. It probably will pass from Parliamentary Committee too.
But it is not important anymore even if it passes because the successful defence that is hold by the advocate of Turkish Defence Fund Bruce Fein, resolution had to be changed and became ineffective. The aim of the resolution is to propaganda so called Armenian genocide issue in the schools of California. The first version of the resolution allowed Armenians to give lectures about 1915 events in California schools.
But since all of the witnesses of 1915 events had passed away, there is no such probability.
