The relations between Turkey and Canada which was negatively affected of Armenian issue seems to be normalized. Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Canon attended to the summit of “Friends of Democratic Pakistan” in Istanbul.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held bilateral talks with Canadian Minister. Turkish diplomats observed that Canadian officials are making an effort towards improvement of relations between Canada and Turkey. Canada House of Commons had recognized 1915 events as “genocide of Armenians” by a decision it made in 2004. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper showed that Canada keeps its attitude about the issue and attended a program that was held by Armenian diaspora in Canada to commemorate 1915 events. Reacting to these developments harshly, Ankara called Turkey’s ambassador to Ottawa Rafet Akgunay back to Turkey .

Canadian Foreign Minister Canon attended to the summit in Istanbul although the developments in Pakistan is not in the agenda of his country. Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Canada discussed about what could be done for normalization of relations between Turkey and Canada.

Coming to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines, Canadian Foreign Minister expressed his content about direct flights of Turkish Airlines between Toronto and Istanbul. Canadian government wants to improve relations with Turkey by suspending its attitude about 1915 events.
