Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan renewed his statements about his preconditions for visiting Turkey to watch the football game between Turkish and Armenian national teams and said, “I will go to Turkey for this football match if our border is opened or we are on the eve to achieve it”. “We have agreements. I think that a normal, correct way for sides to fulfill their agreements. Unfortunately, I have not seen any great wiling or strive to fulfill these agreements,” Sargsyan said.

Stating that recognition of so called Armenian genocide is not a precondition for normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, Serzh Sarksyan said, “We are looking to future but we do not have right to forget the past.”

Stating that he will come to Turkey only if the state border between two countries are opened or two countries are close to make this decision, Armenian President said, “We have agreements. I think that a normal, correct way for sides to fulfill their agreements.”

According to the report of Public Radio of Armenia, Sarksyan said, “It is not important whether i visit Turkey or not. Let’s suppose that Armenia suspended its relations and i go to Turkey to watch the football game. Or consider that i do not go to watch the soccer game but the negotiations between Turkey and Armenia continue. Which is more important?.”

He said that the Armenia still favors establishing relations without preliminary terms.Armenian President stated that Armenia does not consider recognition of so called Armenian genocide as a preliminary term to establish relations. Term ’football diplomacy’ appeared a year ago when the Turkish President Abdullah Gul arrived in Yerevan. A formal cause was a football match between teams of the two countries.

The return football match will be held in Turkey in mid-October.
