“The recent statement by Armenian, Turkish and Swiss foreign ministries is a defeat of Armenian diplomacy,” expert at Armenia Center for Political and International Studies Ruben Mehrabyan said.

He said Armenia has signed several provisions in exchange for nothing. “More worrisome is the fact that Armenia is imposed a term of two months during Karabakh problem must be solved.”

The expert also has fears about the provision on ratification that the initial documents include.

“By ratifying the documents sole responsibility of the head of state begins to spread to the parliament. And second is that Serzh Sargsyan stated he would go to Turkey only after the border is reopened or on the eve of it. Here’s the eve of the event drawn on paper only and Serzh Sargsyan has no more formal reason not to go to Turkey,” Mehrabyan said.

The expert said coincidence of six-week period specified in the protocols with the date of the football match is not accidental at all.

“This is not a trend but simply an initiative brilliantly realized by American diplomacy, from which Turkish diplomacy gained to the maximum while that of Armenia has not received anything.”

“When expressed in sports terminology, football diplomacy ended up in a diplomatic football, but Armenia, unfortunately, had a role of ball in it,” Mehrabyan said.
