U.S. AMBASSADOR TO ARMENIA MET WITH TURKISH AND ARMENIAN TEENS

U.S. supports Armenian-Turkish rapprochement and is confident tangible results will be achieved soon, U. S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch stated.

July 31, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia met with teenagers and teachers participating in the international camp “Let's Learn Tolerance through English“in Canakkale, Turkey. Fifteen Armenian, 19 Turkish and 10 U.S. teenagers aged 14—17 participated in the camp organized by “The Future is Yours” NGO. The purpose of the camp is to further intercultural relations and understand each other better. English language courses were organized as well. The participants visited Asos and Gelibolu cities of Turkey.

August 31, Marie Yovanovitch met with students and journalists. The Ambassador underlined the camp is a way to get acquainted with Turkey and its culture. “Armenian and Turkish teenagers realized they have similar wishes, dreams and fears. It is necessary to show more tolerance in societies,” Yovanovitch emphasized, adding that Armenian-Turkish relations“normalization is crucial for the region and would open up new economic and political possibilities for both countries.
