Leader of Republican People’s Party Deniz Baykal stressed that they will not vote for protocols as long as the occupation in Azerbaijan is not ended.

The protocols towards establishment of diplomatic relations and development of bilateral ties between Turkey and Armenia was discussed at the meeting of Central Management Board of Republican People’s Party (CHP).CHP leader stated that the protocols are written commitments about Turkey’s actions but there is no commitment about withdrawal of Armenia from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.

Mentioning Prime Minister Erdogan’s speech in Azerbaijani Parliament about not opening the state border between Turkey and Armenia till Karabakh conflict is resolved, CHP leader Deniz Baykal stated that initiated protocols accept reopening of border while Armenia does not ensure that it will withdraw from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.”

Stating that presentation of protocols to Turkish Grand National Assembly by government is not a favour but a constitutional obligation, Baykal said that they will not vote for protocols as long as Armenia does not withdraw from occupied lands of Azerbaijan.

Baykal said, “We can reopen the border. They claim that Armenia compromises. But practically, Armenia’s compromises have no improtance at all while our compomises are important. It is not clear for what we compromise.”
