
Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Finance Rustemhanli said, “Karabakh is not only our problem, but Turkey’s problem too. That land was occupied as a policy against Turkey.”
Commenting on Turkey’s Armenia opening, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Finance Rustemhanli stated that Karabakh is also Turkey’s problem and it was occupied as a policy against Turkey.
Talking to Bugun newspaper, Deputy Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan, Tenzile Rustemhanli commented on the recent developments in Turkey-Armenia relations. Reminding that Nagorno-Karabakh problem was not mentioned in the protocol agreement, Rustemhanli said, “Karabakh is not only our problem, but Turkey’s problem too. That land was occupied as a policy against Turkey.”
Stating that Turkey is the only country that Azerbaijan trusts about Nagorno-Karabakh, Rustemhanli said, “We should not let the relations between two countries to be damaged because of the false reports in media.” Stating that Azerbaijan can never be an enemy of Turkey, Rustemhanli said, “Azerbaijani people would not let such enmity. We would feel a pain in our hearts, if Turkey’s little nail gets hurt.”
Stating that their only card remaining against Armenia for urging Armenia to return occupied lands is economical isolation, Rustemhanli said, “Last March 5 Armenian soldier in Nagorno Karabakh surrendered to Azerbaijan telling that they are dying of hunger.” Rustemhanli said that Azerbaijan would lose its most important card against Armenia in case Turkey opens its borders.
Stating that the reports in Turkish media about Aliyev’s visits to Russia and about Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation are not true, Rustemhanli said, “Even politicians wants to establish such rapprochements, our people does not let that happen. Our people know well who is friend and who is the enemy.”
Rustemhanli said, “Even if Turkey opens its borders to Armenia and turns its back to us, we would still trust Turkey more than Russia.” Noting that Azerbaijan will not be Turkey’s enemy even Turkey opens its borders to Armenia, Rustemhanli said, “We just should care about what people of two countries think. Azerbaijan is a part of Turkey.”
