The protocol towards establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia is reduced to the issue of opening of borders by media. On the other hand, establishment of a joint historians committee for making researches over allegations of so called Armenian genocide is one of the clauses that Turkey and Armenia reached agreement on.

In this way, for the first time thesis of Ankara is taken into consideration. The suggestion of establishment of a joint historians committee which Ankara was keeping on agenda, is included in the protocols. Therefore, there occured an opportunity for a remedy for current situation that is made by lobbying activities of Armenian diaspora organizations towards providing international recognition of allegations of so called Armenian genocide. If the committee of joint historians cannot prove the allegations of so called Armenian genocide with concrete evidences, allegations of genocide will losetheir worth.

Within the frames of the protocols that are initialized by Turkey and Armenia, a sub-committee is expected to be established within four months following the ratification of protocols in the parliaments of both countries. Ankara is self confident about this issue. Against activities of Armenian lobbying organizations, Turkey was insisting on establishment of a joint historians committee that will consist of historians from Turkey, Armenia and third countries. This suggestion is because of the confidence of Turkey about the amount of documents in Turkish archives related to Armenian issue. There are about one million document in state archives about Armenian issue. For making the decision of historian committee clearer, Dashnak archives in Boston and archives of Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem are also needed to be opened for researchers.

Turkish side states that genocide means 's ystematic slaughter of a nation” and historic documents in archives contradicts allegations of so called Armenian genocide. Besides, there are documents showing that 64 public officer sentenced to death while 524 of them sent to prison because of their delinquencies during deportation of Armenians to another province of Ottoman Empire.

One of the historians who made researches about the allegations of so called Armenian genocide, is the former Head of Turkish Historical Society Professor Doctor Yusuf Halacoglu. According to him, the agreement towards establishment of a historians committee is an important development. Stating that they never come across a planned initiative towards slaughtering Armenians, Halacoglu said, “There were casualities that died because of delinquencies, but public officers who caused those were penalized.”
