Following the reaction of opposition parties to the protocols that Turkey and Armenia agreed on, towards establishment of diplomatic relations and developing bilateral ties, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu decided to consult Turkey’s steps for normalizing its relations with Armenia, with opposition leaders.
It is reported last week that the protocols that will provide establishment of diplomatic relations between two countries will be signed for six weeks. Within this period, officials of two countries will tell the qualifications of the protocols to their own public opinion.
As government stated that Turkish Parliament will have the final word, opposition harshly criticizes the Armenian initiative of government.
While Republican People’s Party (CHP) stresses that they will not vote for the protocols in the Parliament as long as Azerbaijan’s occupied regions are not returned, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) claims that government bows to the demands of Armenians. Following these reactions, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu decided to start an opposition tour, to tell opposition Parties the point of government.
Davutoglu said, “It is very important for us that whether the opinion and attitude of our government is understood correctly. In this context, i plan to consult this issue with opposition leaders, political parties and other related organizations.”
