Azerbaijani Consul General to Kars, Sultanoglu stated that inhabitants of the provinces which suffered of Armenian atrocity, and non-governmental organizations visited him and expressed their reactions.

Azerbaijani Consul General to Kars, Hasan Sultanoglu stated that Turkey will not make a step that would upset Azerbaijani people. Holding a press conference related to the recent developments in the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, Azerbaijan’s Consul General to Kars, Sultanoglu stated that citizens of Kars, Igdir, Ardahan and Erzurum -that suffered of Armenian atrocity the much- and non governmental organizations visited him and expressed their reactions.

Stating that State of Armenia is only country that prevents peace and stability in the region, Sultanoglu said, “Opening of the borders with Armenia while lands of Azerbaijan is under Armenian occupation would mean leaving Azerbaijan alone in the cause of Karabakh and would damage Azerbaijan. President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan numerously stated that borders will not be opened unless Karabakh conflict is not resolved towards interests of Azerbaijan. We believe and trust that Turkey will not make any steps that would sadden Azerbaijan.”

Stating that the borders between Turkey and Armenia should be opened if Armenia returns control of occupied regions back to Azerbaijan, recognizes territorial integrity of Turkey and gives up with the claims of so called Armenian genocide, Consul General Hasan Sultanoglu said, “Today our citizens came and expressed their reactions. That is so normal. Because these people had suffered of Armenian atrocity so much. These people are heirs of the innocent people who were slaughtered by Armenians. Those are people who fleed from Azerbaijan and started to live in Turkey.”
