President Abdullah Gul and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan met in Yerevan in last September to watch the soccer game between Turkish and Armenian national teams together. On August 31, Turkey and Armenia announced initiation of protocols towards establishment of diplomatic relations and development of bilateral ties between two countries.

Armenian diaspora in United States reacted to the protocol agreement. One of the efficient media organ of Armenian diaspora, Asbarez initiated a campaign demanding for suspension of protocols.

According to the report of Milliyet, Armenian diaspora in United States initiated a campaign for preventing ratification of the protocols by the parliaments of Armenia and Turkey.

One of the most efficient media organs of Armenian diaspora in United States, Asbarez newspaper claimed that the protocols that are planned to be presented to the parliament of Turkey and Armenia for ratification, are conflicting the interests of Republic of Armenia. Armenian newspaper called Armenian people in Armenia and representatives of Armenian diaspora in the World to protest the protocols between Turkey and Armenia and wrote, “Even we are still in shock about this developments, we should accept the reality and start moving. Because there is not much time left.” Newspaper wrote that Armenian government prevents discussion of protocols by public opinion of Armenia.

Making a call for the Armenians living in different countries of the World, Absarez wrote, “Let’s get our voice heard. Just as we did about „Armenian genocide“ and Nagorno-Karabakh. Protocols are not only damaging the efforts for Armenian cause, but also are threat for the national security of Armenia.”
