This week is considered as a critical week for government’s Armenia initiative. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu starts his visits to opposition parties for giving information and seeking support about Armenian initiative. Davutoglu will meet with General President of Republican People’s Party Deniz Baykal tomorrow.

However the attitude of Republican People’s Party (CHP) shows that the possibilities for CHP to support the initiative of the government are low. Nationalist Movement Party also opposes government’s Armenia initiative showing the harshest reaction among opposition parties.

This week is considered as a critical week for Justice and Development Party’s Armenia initiative. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will meet with opposition party leaders to discuss the recent developments between Turkey and Armenia and the protocols that initialized towards establishment of diplomatic relation between two countries. First rendezvous of Davutoglu is with the general president of CHP, Deniz Baykal. The possibility for Foreign Minister to convince CHP leader about supporting government’s Armenia initiative are considered as low.

Spokesman to CHP, Mustafa Ozyurek stated that they will not accept opening of state borders between Turkey and Armenia unless Armenia returns occupied lands of Azerbaijan. He said, “Borders to Armenia are closed after Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan. And the reason for closure of the borders remain. We will not accept opening of borders unless Armenia withdraws from occupied lands.”

Showing the harshest reaction to initiation of protocols between Turkey and Armenia, Nationalist Movement Party rejected Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s request for making an appointment. Secretary General of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Cihan Pacaci said, “6 weeks of consultation process does not exist in diplomacy. It is totally eye-washing.”

Davutoglu will meet Democratic Society Party (DTP) after Ramadan and will present the report to Prime Minister Erdogan that he will prepare about the protocols. Protocols that are initiated towards establishment of diplomatic relations and development of bilateral ties between Turkey and Armenia will be discussed in Council of Ministers and then it will be brought to Turkish Grand National Assembly.
