EU gave an end to the discussions about possibility of participation of Armenia to the Nabucco natural gas pipeline project that came to the agenda with the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. European commissioner for energy Andris Piebalgs stated that Armenia is not in the list of countries that will participate the Nabucco project.

Speaking during “Gas Infrastructure World Caspian-2009” international conference in Baku, Piebalgs said, “There are no talks about Armenia’s participation in the project are being contucted. Armenia will remain out of this project.”

Russian Kommersant journal had claimed that Armenia may be an option for the route of Nabucco because of the unstability in Georgia. Russian newspaper had also claimed that Russia is warm to that option too. Besides that, Russian news portal Svobodnaya Pressa wrote that Armenia’s participation to Nabucco would be towards Russia’s interests.
