European Parliament Christian Democratic Group member, Greek Cypriot Eleni Theocharous stated that European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur Ria Oomen Ruijten hails the first steps between Turkey and Armenia towards establishment of diplomatic relations and opening of borders.
Theocharous said that she hopes Turkey will also make steps towards normalizing its relations with Greek populated Southern Cyprus and withdraw Turkish forces from the island.
Member of European Parliament Theocharous stated that it would be easier to find a permanent solution in the basis of EU principles, if Turkey withdraws military forces from the island and if the normalization of relations between Turkey and Greek populated Southern Cyprus.
