The ratification of Turkey-Armenia protocols in the Turkish Parliament most likely will be delayed till the last moment and expecting the border opening till the year end is unrealistic, Sept. 18 Artak Shakaryan, Turkish studies expert told, commenting on the political consultations of Turkish Foreign Minister with countries' political forces.

“We should remember that Justice and Development Party forms majority and the documents will be ratified by majority of votes,” the expert underlined. Thus, according to Shakaryan, Premier Erdogan if wishes “can move through the Protocols, neglecting both opposition's and any other parties' opinion. Everything depends on predominant party.”

Commenting on the statement by many high rank officials that Azerbaijani interests should be taken into account, Shakaryan said that under this pretence Turkey is likely to further its own interests and all these statements are merely a cover.

According to him, if the documents are not ratified till April 24, 2010, it will be almost impossible to do it thereafter. The parliamentary elections are pending in Turkey and “it will be political suicide to settle Armenian issue in that time frame,” Shakaryan conclude.
