Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan stated that they have three conditions for the peace in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Sarksyan stated that they will not make unilateral compromises in the process of resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Giving an interview to Moskovski Komsomolets newspaper, Sarksyan said, “There certainly will not be unilateral compromises for the peace with Azerbaijan. They think that we will make back steps because we do not bawl punching our chests. There are circles that consider that way in Russia, in West and in Baku. We never think of returning Nagorno-Karabakh. Karabakh became independent and it will stay that way.”
Stating that the lands that Azerbaijan wants back are consisting a security shield at the borders, Sarksyan said, “We are not considering of returning these lands. Thus, i am not angry at people who call us invaders. If Azerbaijan could take these lands back by force, they would do. They do not have such power. They have to listen our opinion.”
Stating that Azerbaijan and Armenia sooner or later will make peace, Sarksyan said, “We have three conditions for peace. First of all, Nagorno-Karabakh will never be returned to Azerbaijan. Secondly, Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence will be recognized in political dimension. And as third, a secure land corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia should be established.”
Stating that they do not consider of making any steps that would damage the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, Sarksyan said, “If development of relations with Turkey was not accepted, why Russia considers Turkey as strategical partner? Azerbaijan is strategical partner for Russia too. Russia is a powerful country, they can establish good relations whichever country they want. But how will we survive? Some people criticize us because of our relations with Georgia. Let them do, we will keep our good relations with Georgia. Two countries are so close to each other.”
Stressing that Armenia even run out of oil during the 5 days war between Russia and Georgia, Sarksyan said, “We do not have a door to World. On one side Turkey, on the other side Azerbaijan and unsolved Nagorno-Karabakh problem. We want to construct railway connection with Iran. But Russia does not help us about this issue. Istanbul is not the Istanbul that was 100 years ago. And Baku is not the Baku 20 years ago. And that is why we are going on with negotiations.”
