According to the official data, the amount of trade between Turkey and Armenia is $200 million anually despite the closed border since 1993. Most of the trade is being made through Georgia and Turkey sells Armenia food, cleaning products and building materials. Kaan Soyak, co-founder and co-chairman of the Turkish-Armenian Business Development Council (TABDC), stated that the trade between two countries will reach to $1 billion if the state borders between two countries are opened.

In 1993, when Turkey closed its borders to Armenia due to the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian armed forces, the volume of trade between two countries was over $4.47 million. At that period, the trade between Turkey and Armenia was consisting one percent of the total trade of Turkey. Turkey was mostly importing food and textile products in an amount of $4.148 million while export of Turkey from Armenia was about $319,000. Although the borders between two countries are closed since 1993, two countries continue to do business through third countries.

Many businessmen sells Armenia mostly food, cleaning products and building materials through Georgia. According to informal data, Turkish businessmen import scrap metal and didymium in an amount of $4—5 million from Armenia.

Armenia do most of its business with Belgium, Russia, United States and Oran. Armenia sells these countries scrap metal, diamond, and copper and imports natural gas, petroleum, tobacco, food and textile products.

ARMENIAN PEOPLE PREFER TURKISH PRODUCTS

Co-chairman of the Turkish-Armenian Business Development Council Kaan Soyak stated that the volume of trade between Turkey and Armenia is about $200 million despite the closed border. Pointing that most of this amount is Turkey's export to Armenia, Soyan stated that the trade between Turkey and Armenia is held through Georgia because of closed borders.
