First lawsuit about so called Armenian genocide in Armenia is being held against book of TESEV researcher Aybars Gorgulu. The complaint is that the term ’genocide’ is used within quotation marks and therefore denial of so called Armenian genocide.

First lawsuit about so called genocide in the history of the Republic of Armenia will be brought to a book that contains a report that is prepared by a Turkish analyst in which so called Armenian genocide is denied by writing the term ’genocide’ within quotation marks.

Ararat Centre for Strategic Research NGO brought the lawsuit against Caucasus Institute Foundation for denying so called Armenian genocide by publishing the report that is prepared by Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) Resercher Aybars Gorgulu. Last year, Caucasus Institute Foundation published the reports that were presented in the meeting in Istanbul into a book in Yerevan. The book “Caucasian Neighbourhood: Turkey and South Caucasus” includes the report of Aybars Gorgulu “Turkey-Armenia Relations: A vicious circle.”

Ararat Centre for Strategic Research issued a complaint that points Gorgulu used the term ’genocide’ within quotation marks 34 times and therefore he denied so called Armenian genocide. Director of Ararat Centre for Strategic Research Armen Ayvazyan said, “From now on, they started to deny ’genocide’ even in Armenia.” He said that the denial of Armenian allegations would cause new genocides. It is stated that Armenian Court has not accepted the case yet because the translation of the texts in Armenian language is not provided.

On the other hand, Director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandarian stated that there is not any law in Armenia that penalizes denial of so called Armenian genocide. “And there is no body denying it,” said he. Iskandarian stated that Aybars Gorgulu is a liberal Turkish historian.
