A group of Armenian Diaspora representatives (the majority of them Russian Armenians) called on Armenian authorities not to sign the protocols initialed with Turkey, APA reported quoting Novosti-Armenia agency.

Addressing president, parliament and political parties, Diaspora representatives expressed their concern over the improvement of Armenia-Turkey relations.“We can not remain indifferent towards the attempts to betray the memory of Armenian genocide victims and deprive future Armenian generations of owning their historical motherland.”

The authors of the appeal consider that the protocols cover certain stipulations of Turkey and the implementation of these documents may bring to incorrigible results. They think that establishment of intergovernmental commission of historians will cast shadow on the so-called genocide, bring this issue to historical discussions, damage the process of its recognition on the international level.

“Armenia's recognizing the borders between the two countries mean the recognition of Moscow, Kars and Lozanne treaties. Moreover, Turkey officially repeats its previous stipulation by stating that it will not take a step contradicting Azerbaijan's interests. It means that Turkey continues to link normalization of relations with Armenia to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The protocols give grounds for this. Though in these documents the sides recognize the states' territorial integrity, they do not mention peoples' self-determination.”

The appeal says that friendly neighborhood between the two countries may be possible on condition that Turkey recognizes Armenian genocide and violated rights of Armenian people are restored.

“Solution of any problem between Armenia and Turkey without taking into consideration the Diaspora's opinion is inadmissible.”

Commenting on Turkish Prime Minister's statement that the protocols will be signed on October 10 Armenian Foreign Ministry said additional information will be given about when the protocols will be signed.
