Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan stated that Turkish-Armenian protocols are the most important development that ever happened.

Speaking in the national council meeting in Yerevan, Sarksyan mentioned the protocols that are initialized by Turkey and Armenia and stated that the protocols aims to create an atmosphere towards establishing dialogue between two states, and betweenTurkish and Armenian people.

Stating that they are aiming to normalize the relations between Turkey and Armenia, Sarksyan said, “I cannot promise Armenian people that we learned every issue and we considered every issue but i want to state that we cannot go on like this.”

Stressing that there are not preconditions but commitments in the protocols, Sarksyan said, “In which document you saw a precondition? If there were preconditions, then those would be stated in protocols. Yes, there are some states in the documents (protocols), but that is the result of compromises, there are not any preconditions in the protocols.”

Stating that there is no external pressure on Armenia to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey, Sarksyan said that the statements that are being made by international organizations related to the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia should be received as advice and suggestion.

Sarksyan said, “Nobody pressed us, nobody forced me to invite Turkish President Abdullah Gul to Yerevan.”
