LA STAMPA: "DIASPORA IS AGAINST SARKSYAN"

Italian newspaper La Stampa commented on the pan-Armenian tour of Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan that he holds todiscuss protocol agreements between Turkey and Armenia. Newspaperwrote that Sarksyan will meet more than 100 representativesof Armenian diasporafrom 27 European countries. Newspaper wrote that each representative will have three minutes todeliver the opinion of their community.

Italian newspaper wrote that Turkey and Armenia announced their aim to establish diplomatic relations but Armenian diaspora is against the agreement because there is no statement about so called Armenian genocide in the documents (protocols).

The report of Italian newspaper also stated that a few days ago Armenian diaspora in France founded a website to collect signatures to protest the rapprochement between two countries. La Stampa also wrote that two delegation from Armenian diaspora in Italy, will be in Paris to express their discontent about normalization process to Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan.

Newspaper also gave space to the statements of European Armenian Federation’s representativeto Italy, Alecco Bezikian. Bezikian stated that they want Turkey to recognize Armenian allegations about 1915 events and “apologize” to Armenians. Bezikian said, “If Republic of Armenia signs such a document, than the attitude of Armenian diaspora against Armenia will change. If Armenians in Armenia can live with their honours today, it is because of Armenian diaspora. This is not blackmailing, this is just the truth.”

Spokesman for Armenian Community of Rome, Robert Attarian said, “We should not forget that Armenian diaspora consists 75 percent of Armenian population.” He said that they expect Armenian government to not to ignore “the truth” about so called Armenian genocide and “to not to trample on the rights of Armenian people.”
