U.S. media is interested in the reactions and concerns of both Turkish and Armenian communities in United States about the protocol agreements that will be signed in Switzerland by the Foreign Ministers of two countries.

As Armenian President is in United States now as a part of his pan-Armenian tour to convince Armenian diaspora on normalizing the ties of Armenia with Turkey, one of the most important newspapers that is published in the state of California which has an important Armenian population, Los Angeles Times gave space to the reactions of both Turkish and Armenian communities to the protocols.

Publishing a report on the issue before the visit of Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan to Los Angeles, LA Times wrote that the agreement between Turkey and Armenia causes reactions in both countries. Newspaper wrote that Armenian community in Los Angeles will prepare protest demonstrations to express their discontent about Turkish-Armenian deal.

Newspaper wrote that both Turkish and Armenian communities who oppose the protocols state that the governments in their homelands are making unreasonable concessions. Armenians strictly oppose establishment of a committee of historians that will make researches on 1915 events. Other thing that disturbs diaspora Armenians the most is the statement in the protocols about recognition of current borders. Directors of Armenian organizations in California say “Protocols are not fair, they are so pro-Turkey.”

Los Angeles Times wrote that Turkish community in United States also opposes the protocols. Newspapergave space to the statements of West Coast director of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations Ergun Kirlikovali;“We really would want peace. But we can’t have peace with preconditions. Turkey is giving too much and getting too little in return.” U.S. journal wrote that Turkish community believes that Turkish government is selling out Azerbaijan by normalizing its relations with Armenia before the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved.
