"KARABAKH CONFLICT MUST BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY TO ENSURE PEACE"

For a long and lasting peace in the region, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister said.

“To ensure durable peace in the region, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan must be resolved as soon as possible within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov during meeting with U. S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel  B. Poneman, the Foreign Ministry said.

Poneman said Azerbaijan and the United States had a broad relationship.

He particularly praised the two countries’ successful cooperation in energy sphere.

Poneman pointed out ensuring energy security was one of the foreign policy priorities of the United States which supports diversification of energy transport routes to global markets.

For his part, Mammadyarov praised the energy cooperation between the two countries.

He noted Azerbaijan exports its energy resources to world markets, and the country also has transit capacities.
