Though the place and date of the protocols initialed by Turkey and Armenia was to be publicized on October 5, it was not done due to unknown reasons. Turkish Foreign Ministry told the Hurriyet newspaper that the Swiss government was to officially declare that the signing ceremony will be held in Zurich on October 10.

“We do not know the reason exactly. The place, date and the persons to be involved were to be declared. But Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who has begun meetings with the Diaspora to get support for the rapprochement with Turkey, faces protests of radical wing of the Diaspora. Maybe Switzerland delayed this statement expecting the protests of the Armenian Diaspora to calm down.”

Turkish Foreign Ministry also said that representatives of the US and the European Union were to attend the signing ceremony. But later to prevent the views that the US and EU exert pressure on both countries, it was decided that only Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Armenia and mediating Switzerland will attend the meeting.
